TOP 10 K-DRAMAs I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Kpop is not the only thing getting famous but there is also this Kdrama or Korean Drama going around nowadays. Who doesn’t know Big Boss Yoo Si Jin from Descendants of the Sun (oh c’mon you know him!) or Kang Chul from W-Two Worlds? Or who was not fascinated by Cheon Song Yi from the ever legendary My Love From the Stars?

And there are other kdramas out there who has great actors and actresses (they are so pretty and handsome too) with super duper amazing plots but these are the top 10 kdramas that I have watched and will surely recommend if you want to jump in this kdrama fever:

1. MY LOVE FROM THE STAR

Kim Soo Hyun as Do Min Joon / Jun Ji Hyun as Cheon Song Yi

This drama will be like forever running through my veins and it will be my forever favorite korean drama. From the plot to the characters, everything is match made in heaven.Do Min-joon (Kim Soo-hyun) is an alien that landed on Earth in the year 1609, during the Joseon Dynasty and was stranded on Earth for the next four centuries. He possesses a near-perfect appearance, enhanced physical abilities involving his vision, hearing and speed, and a cynical, jaded view regarding human beings. As time goes by, Min-joon is forced to take on a new identity every ten years, as his human appearance never ages.

In the present, he works as a college professor. With only three months left before his long-awaited departure back to space, he meets Cheon Song-yi (Jun Ji-hyun), a famous Hallyu actress who suddenly becomes his next-door neighbour. Slowly, he finds himself entangled in Song-yi’s crazy and unpredictable situations, and finds out that she looks like the young girl he fell in love with in the Joseon era. Min-joon tries to keep himself away from Song-yi as he needs to leave the planet, but often finds himself failing to do so.

2. BOYS OVER FLOWERS

Lee Min Ho as Goo Jun Pyo / Goo Hye Sun as Geum Jan Di / Kim Hyun Joong as Yoon Ji Hoo

I don’t know I feel like I should still include this on the list even though I know all of you have seen this drama before (a hundred times I know).  It is based on a manga series Hana Yori Dango written by Yoko Kamio. It spins the modern-day Cinderella tale of a poor, but spunky schoolgirl at an exclusive academy who attracts the interest of the four ultra-rich and ultra-handsome princes of the school known as F4. Lee Min Ho’s curly hair was also legendary who can forget that?

3. WHO ARE YOU: SCHOOL 2015

Kim So Hyun as Go Eun Byul and Lee Eun Bi / Nam Joo Hyuk as Han Yi Han / Yook Sung Jae as Gong Tae Kwang

I had so many feels for this drama. I wasn’t really expecting it to be sooo good. The plot was so amazing and So Hyun’s acting was superb to be honest. It is the sixth installment of KBS’s School series which aired from 1999 through 2002, then resumed in 2013; the series depicts the struggles and dilemmas currently being faced by Korean youth.I wasn’t really a fan of the ending though but it is still one of my fave dramas. And the OSTs are so lit like I still listen to the osts of this drama up till now.

4. FLOWER BOY NEXT DOOR

Park Shin Hye as Go Dok Mi / Yoon Shi Yoon as Enrique Geum

This is one of the and cutest kdrama I’ve seen not that just I have this crush on Yoon Shi Yoon’s character but I don’t know this drama can just make me smile from ear to ear.

Go Dok-mi (in Korean, literally “lonely beauty”) is a shy, frugal freelance copy editor who, for a yet-to-be-revealed reason, refuses to leave her apartment or interact with people as much as possible. Every day, she anonymously receives a carton of milk with a post-it attached. Every day, using a pair of yellow binoculars, she steals peeks at her neighbor across the street, Han Tae-joon, as he goes through his daily morning routine. The last time she was outside, in a park on an autumn day, she had fallen in love with Tae-joon at first sight, following him and watching as he picked up a puppy in a box and took it home. When she looked out her window and saw him living in the apartment opposite hers, she thought of it as fate.

Webtoon artist Oh Jin-rak (Kim Ji Hoon) lives in the same apartment building as Dok-mi. He and his drawing partner Oh Dong-hoon (Go Kyung Pyo) have just finished their latest webtoon “Zombie Soccer,” but it wasn’t picked up because it supposedly plagiarized a video game by Enrique Geum. Jin-rak pitches a new story to persuade his editor Kim Seul-gi: the daily life of this one girl trapped in her apartment, and how her next-door neighbor draws her out into the world… and it’ll be called “Flower Boy Next Door.”

Enrique Geum arrives in Seoul from Spain, his reason for coming is “cupid’s arrow.” Though he’s in love with his best friend Yoon Seo-young, she has feelings instead for his older brother, Han Tae-joon, so he intends to play cupid for the two. When Enrique comes to stay at Tae-joon’s apartment, he catches Dok-mi in the act. That same day, a new neighbor Watanabe Ryu moves into the apartment across to Dok-mi’s (Jin-rak lives next door). And with all these new men suddenly entering her life, Dok-mi’s solitary and orderly world is turned upside down.

5. DREAM HIGH

Bae Suzy as Go Hye Mi / Ok Taecyeon as Hyun Si Hyuk / Kim Soo Hyun as Song Sam Dong

This drama basically got me into the kdrama world. I was still on highschool when I first saw this drama and I was still hype from the kpop thing going on and who doesn’t enjoy kids going to and Arts School learning how to sing and dance? Six students at Kirin High School have the dream of becoming Kpop Idols. During their school years, they learn how to develop their singing, songwriting and dancing skills while undergoing personal growth. They also go through their love life and start to develop feelings for each other. Each one of the students has his or her own strengths and weaknesses, but they strive to debut with the support and guidance of each other. (SPOILER : YOU CAN SEE KIM SOO HYUN DANCING HERE OMG)

6. PINNOCHIO

Park Shin Hye as Choi In Na / Lee Jong Suk as Choi Dal Po and Ki Ha Myung

At first I really thought this drama was lame because of its title but then I was wrong. This drama is so amazing and it was the main reason why I love Lee Jong Suk so much. Ki Ha Myung was living a happy life until his father, Ki Ho Sang got killed on a fire during a rescue attempt along several of his men. When Ha Myung’s father went missing the media started to make false reports about him telling he was alive and was responsible for the death of others. This causes the Ki Family to be an outcast in their neighborhood. Ki Ho-sang’s wife kills herself and her younger son (Ha-myung) by jumping off a cliff, and Jae-myung blames their deaths on the media, particularly Cha-ok (In Na’s mother).

The man that pulls Ha-Myeong out of the ocean is the grandfather of In-Ha. In-Ha’s grandfather believes Ha-Myeong is his eldest son Dal-Po, who died 30 years ago. Ha-Myeong is then adopted by In-Ha’s grandfather and his name is changed to Dal-Po. In-Ha and Dal-Po now live together as uncle and niece, although they are in the same age range. In-Ha has a Pinocchio Syndrome. Whenever she lies she gets the hiccups. In-Ha and Dal-Po get along well until Dal-Po learns that In-Ha’s mother is the reporter that covered the waste facility fire that destroyed his family. Dal-Po tries to distance himself from In-Ha, but he also develops feelings for her.

Years later, Dal-Po and In-Ha’s family are now living in Seoul. In-Ha attempts to become a reporter like her mother. In-Ha meets her mother for the first time in years at a job interview for MSC Broadcasting Station. Her mother is the person giving her the job interview. In-Ha though fails the job interview. Her mother rejects her because of her Pinocchio Syndrome. Dal-Po is now driving a taxi to support their family. One day, Dal-Po meets In-Ha’s mother and decides to become a reporter.

7. REPLY 1997

Jung Eun Ji as Sung Shi Won / Seo In Guk as Yoon Yoon Je / Hoya as Kang Joon Hee

It centers on the lives of six friends in Busan, as the timeline moves back and forth between their past as 18-year-old high schoolers in 1997 and their present as 33-year-olds at their high school reunion dinner in 2012, where one couple will announce that they’re getting married. What I really like about this drama is first, the accent. I really love that Busan satoori i dont even know why. Second is the fangirling. Who doesn’t relate to Shi Won as she fangirls over H.O.T? Plus the twist of this drama was so unexpected I did not see that coming srsly.

8. DESCENDANTS OF THE SUN

Song Joong Ki as Yoon Si Jin / Song Hye Kyo as Kang Mo Yeon

Aigoo. Do I still have to tell you guys why this drama is on this list? It’s like everybody’s favorite drama because who was not hyped over Big Boss and the other cute guys included in this drama. The characters, the acting, the soldiers, the love story everything will make you want to watch it again and again and again.

Si-Jin  is the captain of the special forces. He catches a motorcycle thief with Sergeant Major Dae-Young (Jin Goo). The thief is injured during his capture and is sent to the hospital. Dae-Young realises his cellphone was stolen by the thief and goes to the hospital to retrieve his cellphone. In the emergency room, Si-Jin meets Dr. Mo-Yeon  for the first time. He falls in love with her immediately. Mo-Yeon mistakenly assumes Si-Jin is part of thief’s criminal gang. He proves to her that he is a soldier with the help of army doctor Myeong-Joo (Kim Ji Won).

Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs their dates don’t go well. Si-Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to the country of Uruk. Meanwhile, Mo-Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague’s privileged background. When Si-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again, they talk about their views on life and realise how different they are. Si-Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives and Mo-Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. They say their goodbyes. Eight months later, Mo-Yeon is assigned to lead a medical team in Uruk. There, Si-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again.

9. OH MY GHOST

Park Bo Young as Na Bong Sun / Jo Jung Suk as Kang Sun Woo / Kim Seul Gi as Shin Soon Ae

I just can’t get over this drama. There was no single episode I was not laughing at all. The way Na Bongsun calls Kang Sun Woo “chef” is still stuck in my mind.

Na Bong-Sun works as an assistant chef. Because of her timid personality and low self-esteem, she doesn’t have any friends. Since she was a child, she has been able to ghosts because of her shaman grandmother. One day, she becomes possessed by seductress ghost Shin Soon-Ae. Kang Sun-Woo is a star chef. Na Bong-Sun has a secret crush on him. He is good looking and confident as a chef. He begins to notice Na Bong-Sun after her sudden change.

10. MARRIAGE NOT DATING

Han Groo as Joo Jang Mi / Yeon Woo Jin as Gong Ki Tae

Wealthy plastic surgeon Gong Ki-tae has no interest in getting married; marriage is all shop girl Joo Jang-mi dreams about. In an effort to get his parents off his back about the constant string of blind dates and marriage prospects, Ki-tae purposely brings Jang-mi home to meet his parents posing as his girlfriend, certain that they’ll never approve of her. This romantic comedy portrays a man who doesn’t want to get married, and a woman who has no luck with potential marriage prospects.

One thing that I will surely miss about this drama though is the sound effects and the background music. This will be one of the funniest drama I’ve ever watched.

So basically, that was my top 10 favorite kdramas. How about you, what were your fave dramas?
